President's Foreword
On behalf of all club members may I welcome you to Sandal Rugby Club. Whether you are a player, a spectator or an official I hope you enjoy the facilities and hospitality that the club has to offer. As I have often declared in numerous speeches rugby is first and foremost a community game that brings together people of different backgrounds, nationalities, professions, physical build and ages. What we have in common is a passion for the sport. Please participate and share in this camaraderie both on the pitch and in the clubhouse afterwards.
Last season we were privileged to see running rugby of the highest order from the 1st XV down to the youngest junior or mini team – the result of good coaching and the desire to express oneself on the pitch. Gaining promotion to North East 2 is vindication of the talent at the club that has been superbly harnessed and developed by Jim Kilfoyle and his coaching team over the last few seasons. We now have strength in depth with an excellent 2nd XV capable of competing for first team places – a necessary pre-requisite for performing well at a higher level. Below them we have outstanding colts, junior and mini sections. May I wish all the players, whatever level, team or age, an enjoyable season.
On the social front I would like to encourage supporters to participate in the Patron’s lunches before home matches – they are an excellent way to meet old friends, to reminisce about those memorable victories and unforgettable tries and to warm up for the day’s fixture. Please see Peter Tunningley for further details.
Finally I would like to thank the many volunteers who work hard behind the scenes to allow the club to function, as well as the dedicated employees who are the backbone of any successful operation. As the new Development Plan will show there are many tasks that still need a helping hand. If you as an individual or a group of friends would like to offer their services please see me or any of the executive committee. The dictionary defines a ‘community’ as a body of people enjoying fellowship - join me in enjoying today’s rugby community.
